MTA launches Electric Vehicle Training Centre

Public news

Earlier this month the MTA launched South Australia’s first dedicated Electric Vehicle Training Centre. Premier Peter Malinauskas and Leader of the Opposition David Speirs joined the automotive industry, government officials and special guests to mark this new and significant chapter for the MTA.

More and more South Australians are choosing to purchase an EV and the new centre will help facilitate this ongoing and future demand. MTA apprentices will be undertaking their training on the latest vehicles with cutting-edge tools, technology and safety requirements.

The centre will also allow the MTA to upskill existing technicians and members who are beginning to see EVs in their workshops and businesses for the first time.

It was a necessary investment underpinned by our commitment to protect and grow the South Australian automotive retail, service and repair industry. All of our training is designed to match the needs of industry and your business.

The state-of-the-art workshop is only the second of its kind nationally. It has a range of the latest vehicles including the Hyundai Ionic 6, Kia Nero and BYD Atto 3, myenergi APAC EV chargers, insulated workshop tools, new hoists and safety equipment.

Automotive is experiencing a revolutionary turning point and the MTA stands at the forefront of this to prepare our industry and the wider public for the rise of zero and low emission vehicles. We know the transition to EVs and Hybrids will not happen overnight – far from it – but we are undoubtedly seeing their popularity grow and affordability improve.

Premier Malinauskas attended the launch alongside representatives from all sides of politics. “Automotive is part of our cultural and economic identity and it’s important we invest in this,” he said during his speech.

You can experience the EV Training Centre first-hand for yourself and the MTA is available to answer any training enquiries you may have.
