One of the MTA’s newest members is also one of the newest vehicle repair shops in Adelaide.
Owner of Euro Station Automotive, Michael Hipner achieved an impressive turnaround time from his original decision to start a business, to opening his doors to customers at the end of January this year.
“When I left the place I was working at after 12 years, I had an idea in my head for this place,” he explained.
Michael found his Croydon Park site after an extensive search of potential workshop spaces in the Adelaide area.
“We transformed the whole thing from an old warehouse into what it is now in five weeks,” Michael said.
“When we signed the lease, there was nothing in it – we were working day in, day out.
“We set up the floors, painted the whole place, and set up an office.”
However, the short five weeks of rapid organisation weren’t always smooth sailing.
“I was delayed with the hoist, because the guy who came to install it said that the concrete was too thin, so I had to cut out a square and tip in more concrete, then wait two more weeks for that to set,” Michael recalled.
“It’s all happened very quickly, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Michael’s hard work was rewarded on the 26th of January this year, when despite the unfavourable weather, 150 people showed up to Euro Station Automotive’s Open Day.
With a range of impressive European luxury cars on display, the business was celebrated by a wide array of people, including members of a few Adelaide-based car clubs.
This week, Michael had a Lamborghini, a Porsche, two Audis, and a Ferrari sitting in his workshop.
To those people who think his achievements sound like their ultimate goal, Michael recommends taking a risk and taking the first step towards opening their own business.
“Everyone’s scared of change. They’re too comfortable working for someone, knowing they’re always going to get a wage,” he explained.
“I did it in the worst times – COVID times – it’s a lot of work but it’s 100 percent worth it.
“If you’re going to do it, set it up nicely. My type of clientele especially like a nice clean workshop.”
Going forward, Michael is looking to expand his premises or move to a different workshop to cater for the growing number of customers already loyal to his business.
“I’ll hire some staff and get a few more hoists, but for now, this is a very good stepping stone for me,” he said.
The MTA look forward to supporting Michael as he continues on his fast-paced journey to success.
