SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MEMBERS

SA Government Business Hardship Grant

The SA government has announced a new round of business support grants for eligible businesses. Grants available include:

  • $6,000 for employing businesses
  • $2,000 for non-employing businesses

Plus an additional grant of $2,000 for eligible businesses with a commercial premise in the CBD

Grants will be automatically paid to businesses that received a COVID-19 Business Hardship Grant in December 2021. Other businesses that experience a reduction in turnover of 50% or more over the period 10 January to 30 January 2022, can apply for a grant.

SA Payroll tax exemption

Wages paid to apprentices and trainees who commence a relevant training contract between 10 November 2020 and 30 June 2022 (inclusive), will receive relief equivalent to a 12-month payroll tax exemption.

Wages paid to these employees do not need to be included in payroll tax calculations. You will need to declare the amount of wages paid separately in the monthly and annual returns.

NORTHERN TERRITORY MEMBERS

Territory Business Lockdown Payment Program

For Local Government Areas that are put into lockdown, the Northern Territory Government opens up the Territory Business Lockdown Payment Program. This is a one-off $1,000 payment to eligible Territory businesses within the LGA or region that is locked down.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

Apprentice wage subsidy

Eligible employers will receive a wage subsidy of up to 50% of the Australian Apprentice’s gross wage paid. It is available for Australian Apprentices commencing or recommencing between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022.

It is available for a maximum of $7,000 per quarter, per eligible Australian Apprentice, for wages paid in the 12 month period from the date of commencement or recommencement.

Boosting and Completing Apprenticeships

The Federal Government has announced a 'Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements' wage subsidy, which will see the Government pay a capped 50% wage subsidy for new apprentices commencing between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022 for a 12 month period.

After the 12-month period, employers will be eligible to transition to the time-limited Completing Apprenticeship Commencements (CAC) wage subsidy for the second and third years of an apprenticeship. Under the CAC, eligible employers will receive a 10 percent wage subsidy in the second year of an eligible apprenticeship, up to a maximum of $1,500 per quarter per apprentice, and a 5 percent wage subsidy in the third year of their apprenticeship, to a maximum of $750 per quarter per apprentice.
