Air Conditioning

This 3-day course covers both R134a and the newer R1234yf gas and includes the ARCTick Licence eligibility requirement.

This short course has been developed to equip industry professionals with the accredited skills in safety, operations, servicing, diagnostic procedures and legislation requirements to work on vehicle air conditioners.

Air conditioning is a vital part of any vehicle today!

But… for your business to legally handle some air conditioning gases and perform other tasks, your staff must be qualified with an ARCtick license.

Held over three days, this nationally recognised course covers both R134a and the newer R1234yf gas. Upskill your staff and they will learn how to skilfully service, repair, retrofit and modify HVAC systems.

Students will be able to undertake the following accredited Core Units from the AUR20218 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology:

  • AURETU002 Recover vehicle refrigerants
  • AURETU003 Service air conditioning and HVAC systems
  • AURETU004 Diagnose and repair air conditioning and HVAC systems

Upon completion of the above units, students will be issued a Statement of Attainment.

Participants who are able to demonstrate a credit transfer or undertake Recognition of Prior Learning of units listed below, will be issued with AUR20218 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology.

Students must provide proof of completed units:

  • AURASA002 – Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
  • AURAEA002 – Follow environmental and sustainability best practice in an automotive workplace
  • AURETR012 – Test and repair basic electrical circuits
  • AURTTA018 – carry out diagnostic procedures

Along with at least six of the elective units for the qualification (click here for eligible units)

Upon receiving Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology, participants will be able to obtain their AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence through ARCtick. (At their own cost)

A valid ARCtick licence (AAC02 Refrigerant handling licence) is required to handle R134a gas.


All candidates that participate in this course need to demonstrate competency in:

  • Safety precautions when working with air conditioning systems
  • Operation of an automotive air conditioning system
  • Overview of an automotive air conditioning system
  • Servicing of an automotive air conditioning system
  • Diagnostic procedures
  • Legislation requirements under the current Act and regulations
